Trayak and Climate Collaborative teamed up to create a Climate-Smart Package Design Guide. Companies can use it as a reference or a starting point to improve the environmental impact of their packages. Several key strategies that can help inform decisions and solutions are outlined. The guide details a general package design process using Trayak’s Life Cycle Assessment software, COMPASS. The tool can evaluate current packaging, test out materials, weights, or processes, and quantify any improvements from design changes.
Design a Better, More Sustainable Package
The guide has two examples that show environmental reductions from implementing sustainable strategies. One of the examples is a case study from the company Danone North America examining their So Delicious almond milk product packaging by designing a recyclable bottle. COMPASS enabled them to quantify the decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by analyzing changes to the design of the almond milk bottles.
