Speaking at SPC Impact 2021

Trayak is a proud sponsor of this year’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s Impact 2021 Virtual Conference. The conference is being held April 20-21, 2021. Please stop by our booth and say hello. Trayak’s Lead Sustainability Consultant Alison Younts will be co-hosting a workshop with Olga Kachook (SPC, Greenblue Senior Manager) titled What an LCA Can (and Can’t) Tell You About Sustainable Packaging. The workshop will be held on April 20, 2021 at 11 am EST. Life cycle assessments, or LCA, can be a powerful tool for understanding the environmental impacts from manufacturing, distribution, and disposal and applying it to a specific product. An LCA can show us a plethora of different environmental impacts, but there are also limitations to how it can be used and what it can tell us. Ultimately, you’ll need to decide how to interpret, prioritize, and act on the information generated in an LCA. This is often the most difficult part of using LCA as a tool, and where many sustainability and packaging professionals experience challenges. This workshop will draw on content from SPC’s recently-released Essentials of Life Cycle Assessment course and explore how brands have used LCA to guide their decision-making process.

In particular, how a life cycle approach accounts for environmental impacts associated with the materials and processes used to bring packaging to market and allows decision makers to incorporate environmental parameters alongside economic factors.
